I want to continue viewing dances through their particular style, not trying to force ballet techniques on styles that don’t incorporate them....My mindset and awareness of the history of Jazz Dance has been transformed.

Now that the semester is coming to a close, I realize that in the last four years of my undergraduate career, I had yet to enjoy a class as much as I did [this one]. I was able to see myself transform from an anxious 21-year old who possessed a “left-brained”, analytical mentality to a slightly less anxious 21-year old with new found passion for musical theatre and dance. I intend to take this mindset with me as I embark on my post-graduation career and I thank you for a great semester!

It gave me an appreciation of dance again. I think I’ve kind of been losing my love and interest of dance and it was nice to be able to get myself back into that.

I am a big fan of your work! Thank you for sharing your work on consent, intimacy and touch, and ungrading. What you are doing is the key to future dance education. Gratitude for what you do!

Concept Maps Created by the Small Groups on the Final Day of Dance Appreciation Fall 23 to Demonstrate their Take-Aways.

The Cucumber Group created a piece based off of the artwork to the right. The assignment asked students of Dance Appreciation to work together to create a piece using the Elements of Dance and Choreographic Structures studied in class as part of our Dance as Performance unit.

The Lime and Grapefruit groups both choose this piece of artwork for their pieces.

Alexa discusses her art.

Alexa created visual artworks of different dance styles for her Final Project in Dance Appreciation. This was a personal favorite of mine to view.

At the beginning of the second half of the semester, I set 5 new goals for myself. I feel like those goals helped me build character and a sense of love for myself. My peers and my professor made me feel especially successful this semester through all my efforts. I have learned to reach inside my mind and creativity and use them towards expressing a message.
