I am so honored to have the South Florida Theatre Community offer me a Silver Palm for my Intimacy work over the last year. I am very grateful for the way the community has embraced this work.
Fall 2024 actually marks 5 years for me as an Intimacy Professional! In some ways, I feel like I’ve been doing this forever. In others, I know we just started and have a long way to go.
I worked on In the Heights at Measure for Measure Theatre in September and October 2019. I am grateful for Daimien Matherson taking a chance on me and this work, and incorporating intimacy direction into this musical.
Not long after, the incomparable Niki Fridh heard about what I was doing and said “The world needs this!” to Matt Stabile, and he agreed. Matt brought me into Theatre Lab for The Glass Piano and To Fall in Love in early 2020 (and then we know what happened…).
These 3 folks were early adopters and public and vocal proponents, and I know that part of the reason the Intimacy work has become a part of theatrical life in South Florida is because of them. Their vision for a better theatre community and their confidence and trust in me are part of why the committee has given me this pretty statue. And I am humbled and grateful.
