While I do have a book of my coming out (see below), I’ve also contributed to a couple that were published recently.
My colleagues and friends Elaine and Heather have a great book for dance and theatre teachers on incorporating consent-forward practices into the classroom. I was honored that they wanted to interview me for it, and extra-honored that when the New York Public Library interviewed them about the book, one of my quotes (one of my favorite things to say!) was featured. Besides being interviewed for that book, and Intimacy Coordinator’s Guidebook which came out earlier in 2024 (see post about it below), I wrote a chapter for the latest installment in Routledge’s Applied Theatre series, Applied Theatre and Gender Justice! This book offers case studies and tools for using theatre to make the world a better place. This just came out and is on sale until January 6, so get it now!

I was really honored by the mention of my role as both ID and choreographer on this new version of The Fantasticks currently up at Island City Stage. (so much so, you can find that quote all over this website now….).
I had the honor and collaborative joy of serving as intimacy director and movement director for Lovesong at Thinking Cap Theatre in their new space in Hollywood.

This week I have production meetings for 3 shows in organizations 24-25 theatre seasons, so it seems like a good time to wrap 23-24!
-3 shows as an ID (one was both dance and intimacy) that played out of state
-15 professional productions creating dance, intimacy, and/or violence
- 6 shows in educational settings with intimacy or dance by me
And 24-25 is off to a strong start!
My first, and definitely not my last, book contribution combining my work in intimacy direction and dance is now available.
Check out “The Intimacy Coordinator’s Guidebook”, edited by Brooke M. Haney, with contributions from professionals in various specialties. My contributions can be found in chapter 16, specifically on academic dance and touch in dance. My contributions are alongside those of Intimacy Direction in Dance co-founder, Sarah Lozoff.
Florida Intimacy Professionals (FLIP) is pleased to announce their launch of an online database for qualified Intimacy Directors and Coordinators in Florida. The organization was created by professionals in live (theatre, opera, and dance) and recorded (film and TV) entertainment to promote the use of Intimacy Professionals, and also to demonstrate best practices in the entertainment industry. These professionals, specially trained in movement for story-telling and creating moments of contact, uphold performer boundaries while fulfilling the creative vision of the director.

Excited to share that Jagged Mind, a film I worked on most of last summer (when I wasn’t on the set of God Forbid) is making its world premiere a feature at the American Black Film Festival here in Miami in June! A few days later, it will hit Hulu, as a Pride feature. Hulu actually kept me very busy last summer!

Money is a challenge for every artist. Despite the buzz around Intimacy work for theatre, film, dance, tv, and opera, payment remains a sticky subject for any Intimacy Director or Intimacy Coordinator.

Consent cannot exist if someone is under manipulation, influence, or coercion. Therefore, consent cannot exist when power dynamics are at play. Because power dynamics, whether social-structural or embodied, influence how we chose, behave, and speak.
Which is why consent does not exist for performers or students.
