The Impossible Task of Today

For the first time in a LONG TIME, I am back onstage! I’m served as the choreographer for this production, as well as playing The Dark.

Five years removed from tragedy, Jack, an agoraphobic online teacher has perfected his video game playing skills but severely neglected his hygiene, mental health, and dwindling number of personal relationships. When the grocery delivery guy is one of your best friends, something's got to give, and with the arrival of a home gym, everything will change. Jack truly believes it...even if no one else does.

Theatre Lab closes their 24-25 season with this stunning world premiere - another hit from their 2022 New Play Festival. The script uses humor and hope to explore issues of gun violence, mental health,  and the dangers of social media - all the while reminding us that the only way to move through difficult times is together.

Talking Boundaries: Essential Communication Tools for Theatre Artists

“Boundaries” is a term that gets thrown around a lot. But what, exactly, IS a boundary? And how can you best communicate yours?

Actors, singers, and dancers are all called upon to enter rehearsals and performances vulnerable and open. Sometimes we play roles of people who do terrible things, or explore themes that can activate previous traumas or negative experiences. And, we all have different needs and expectations when we go to work!

Boundary practices can support performers in all genres in separating “the work” from “the artist”. In this 1.5 hour workshop we will use lecture, personal reflection, interactive exercises, and group discussions to define boundaries and practice communicating them professionally. We will also explore accountability and communication when things go wrong.  Each participant will leave with tools and resources to enter the next performance process with clarity and confidence.

While this workshop is meant for performers, teachers of performance may also benefit from these tools to help students think through boundaries and closure.

KINesphere- a Site-Inspired Dance Performance

KINesphere- a Site-Inspired Dance Performance

I am excited to announce 3 performances of KINesphere- a Site-Inspired Dance Performance!

I have been working on this idea through research, movement, grant writing, and rehearsals, since June. You can see all of the R&D and creative process over at the KINesphereDance blog.

Now it is time for the finished product!

The title of KINesphere emphasizes our “personal space” or “bubble”, something we are all very aware of with COVID-19 social distancing measures, as well as the idea of relating as kin, rather than simply “other”.

This idea of kinship comes from my readings of Robin Wall-Kimmerer & Donna J. Haraway. Both of these scientists/writers/teachers/activists encourage us to encounter the natural world as kinfolk, rather than species removed from ourselves.

After all, we do all share the same kinesphere of the Earth.

Join me and 3 dancers: Joanna Asch, Yasmin Llevada, and Ricky Morisseau at West Lake Park/the Anne Kolb Nature Center for one of three performances on Thursday, December 30.

12pm, 2pm, and 4pm.

You can RSVP on Eventbrite. While the park and the event are free, we are asking for RSVPs to ensure you can see the performance. Additionally, while on Eventbrite, you have the option of making a donation. Proceeds will be split between the dancers and the Love the Everglades Movement. We are excited to support this Indigenous-led work to preserve our South Florida ecosystem and kinfolks.
